Cinco de Mayo Cinco de Mayo, or the fifth of May, is an annual celebration of the anniversary of Mexico's victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla back in 1862. It is often mistakenly thought of as Mexico's Independence Day. Because of intense alcohol advertising over the years, USA beer sales for the celebration are now competitive with Super Bowl sales. I think I’ll purchase some cold Bohemia – my favorite Mexican beer. Happy Mother’s Day Mother’s Day is celebrated at various times, usually in March or May, in over 40 countries. In the USA it is an annual celebration on the second Sunday of May and it happens to fall on the 14th this year. President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation in 1914 designating Mother's Day as a national holiday to honor all mothers. Motherhood and moms are a beautiful thing. If you get a chance tell them Fred at Zystrix sent you. Gunner by Analog Obsession This free pedal is a Marshall Guv'nor style overdrive pedal plugin. The original Guv’nor pedal from the late 1980s didn’t receive much recognition, but years later guitarists started to take notice. The controls on this plugin are still the same: Drive, Level, Bass, Mid, and Treble. Real analog stomp boxes consistently sound better, but here’s your chance to own a close computerized digital approximation of the analog original by clicking on the pedal photograph or simply click here. R47 by TSE Here’s another free guitar pedal plugin you may enjoy. The R47 emulates the ProCo Rat pedal, and it’s not a bad approximation. In my opinion pedal plugins never sound as good as the real thing, but this one is a worthwhile addition to your computer pedal arsenal. This pedal has Input Level for controlling the incoming signal, Drive for the amount of distortion, and Filter for setting the amount of guitar lowpass. Dangerous Neighbors Here’s a free download of almost one and a half hours of original neo-classical solo piano by Dangerous Neighbors. This full length album consists of 18 original piano pieces with the final piece in two movements. There is a bonus track making 20 files total. This download comes in three format options: the first option is a single file MP3 containing all the tunes in one chunk similar to tape recordings. The second download option is a folder with all of the separate MP3 piano pieces named and arranged in album order similar to a CD or MP3 player. The third download option is similar to videos found on “zoo-tube” with the names and times on the screen. To download any or all of these options simply choose below.
